Liatris spicata is a commonly hybridized garden center plant, but is particularly difficult to find in its original form in the wild. We know of two stable stands of indigenous Liatris spicata growing in Pennsylvania and a few sites in New Jersey. We propagate from both EcoRegion 064b and 070c. When ordering, please specify western PA or eastern PA genotype.
We grow our own seed from stock plants that we maintain in the nursery (see picture below). We have developed a special media blend specifically to meet the mesic, well-drained soil needs of these species so our plugs are enormous and healthy, often with 2 or 3 corms per plug.
